The Rook, on the other hand, can move straight in any direction, for a certain number of squares, as long as it does not cross over another piece. All pieces move in different ways, depending on their value.

Winning the Game

The game is won when one of the players manages to put the other player’s king in ‘check’, a condition in which the king is threatened by an enemy piece and must take steps to escape it or else be captured. If no move can be made to escape the check, the player is considered to have lost the game and the other player is declared the winner. If both players have their kings in check, or the same piece is put in check multiple times without movement, the game is considered a draw.
